The Jackson Municipal Band will perform its final weekly concert of the season at 8 p.m. Thursday at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn.
This performance is given in remembrance of the past band and community members who have contributed to the city of Jackson. The honking of car horns is appreciated and acceptable, a tradition of uptown concerts.
Special guest at this concert will be Julie Walker, local singer, songwriter, guitarist and teacher in Jackson. Her performance style would be best described as contemporary folk.
She performs at ceremonies, banquets, coffeehouses and other intimate gatherings. Walker serves in the music ministry at New McKendree United Methodist Church. She will perform original selections and a love song medley arrangement for this program.
The band's portion of the concert will include marches such as "140th Infantry," "Semper Fidelis" and "The Thunderer." A collection of songs from the 1920s will also be played.
John Ellis will be featured on a trumpet solo in "Red Rhythm Valley."
