After two major disasters and other events that resulted in broken trees and damaged homes, the Jackson Board of Aldermen approved a debris management plan designed to make recovery smoother and safer. Jackson was hit by a tornado in May 2003 and a major ice storm in February 2008. Other storms include the ice storm that struck in January and the remnants of Hurricane Ike, both of which created debris problems. The plan will coordinate public and private debris removal efforts as well as identify contractors who meet city standards.
