The city of Jackson seems to be gearing up for construction season, as several projects are slated to begin soon.
The Board of Aldermen approved a motion hire Koehler Engineering and Land Surveying of Cape Girardeau for $5,100 to survey part of Old Cape Road for inclusion in the 2016 Asphalt Street Improvement Program.
The patch to be surveyed will be about 900 feet of gravel road north of Gloria Drive.
Public Works director Rodney Bollinger said the paving project as a whole will go out to bid later this month and will be completed during the summer months.
Bollinger said the project will include several more routine repairs, but none as large as paving part of Old Cape Road.
“Everything else will just be patches on other streets,” he said.
The board also approved a truck route to be used during the construction of the uptown roundabout. It will use parts of South Shawnee Boulevard, East Washington Street and North Maryland Street.
Because it will be nearly identical to a truck detour used during repairs to the railroad tracks at U.S. 61 and Highways 25 and 72 last month and MoDOT received no complaints about that project, the city anticipates the detour will be similarly well-received.
The plan to replace a failing retaining wall in the Annwood Estates subdivision also is nearing its start.
Staff engineer Erica Bogenpohl told the board materials are en route, and demolition likely will begin Monday.
