The Jackson Board of Aldermen is expected to approve just over $24,000 for the design of a new restroom facility in Jackson City Park during its next scheduled meeting Monday night.

The proposed restroom will be installed near the girls’ softball fields as part of an ongoing renovation of the complex being undertaken jointly by the city and the Jackson School District.

The restroom facility is being handled by the city, but progress stalled when initial design estimates were deemed too high.

Follow-up estimates were more feasible, but the built-in concession stand planned for it had to be nixed.

The city likely will authorize funds to Dille Traxel Architecture, which is expected to return two or three designs of differing exterior materials.

“The building material is still to be determined,” staff engineer Erica Bogenpohl said via email.

City staff and officials generally prefer the building be concrete-brick, similar to one near the soccer park, over a prefabricated structure or hybrid of the two.

During its last study session, the board talked of possibly adding the concession stand at a later time. That would be more difficult with a prefabricated structure.

“Depending on what type of construction material is selected, the project cost, including design, is expected to be between $145,000 and $180,000,” Bogenpohl said.

The structure’s utility needs also will cost the city tens of thousands more dollars but not more than $100,000, Bogenpohl told the board during its last study session.

Bogenpohl said Wednesday the city hopes to begin the restroom’s construction sometime in the summer of next year.
