JACKSON -- The Jackson Board of Aldermen welcomed back their senior board member, Ward 1 Alderman David Ludwig, Monday. Ludwig has been absent from the board since he suffered a heart attack in late September.
"Thanks for all the cards, flowers and support while I was hospitalized. I very much appreciate them and want to publicly thank everyone," said Ludwig.
After hearing an update on the Region 8 Solid Waste Management Plan, the board voted to table a motion to adopt a resolution in support of the waste management plan until Nov. 22, to allow all board members to review the resolution. Three aldermen were absent from the meeting.
A rezoning hearing was scheduled for Jan. 3, on a request by Gerald McElrath to rezone a tract of land on East Jackson from R-3 to C-1.
Acting City Engineer Rich Bowen reported the West Adams paving project was moving as well as expected, considering last week's wet weather. "I still think it will be finished before winter," said Bowen.
Mayor Paul Sander advised that anyone wanting to use the veteran's memorial in Brookside Park for special events, such as weddings, should contact Grace Wille at 243-5161.
Sander reported the ad hoc committed appointed earlier this year to plan for the renovation of the former Jackson Exchange Bank Building into city hall offices met this week.
"The wheels are turning on that project," said the mayor. The city expects to relocate the city hall, and library into the former bank building sometime next year.
The board voted 5-0 to table the third reading of an ordinance to establish a sanitary sewer district along Bainbridge Road until Nov. 22 to allow time for property owners to be notified.
