David Ludwig, a 20-year member of the Jackson Board of Alderman, has announced that he will run for Cape Girardeau County auditor when H. Weldon Macke retires next year.
Ludwig, 55, works at Drury Inn's Reservation Call Center in Cape Girardeau. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing management.
He has been an account representative for U.S. Office Products and Moore Business Forms and Systems Division as well as a stint in the U.S. Navy in Naval Intelligence.
Ludwig was elected to the Jackson Board of Alderman in 1981 and has also served on the Power and Light Committee, Street Committee, Jackson Library Board and is a member of the Jackson Jaycees.
Ludwig will have at least one opponent. He will square off against fellow Republican, Cape Girardeau city councilman Matt Hopkins in next August's primary before the November 2002 general election.
"Weldon did a wonderful job for a lot of years," Ludwig said. "I want to build on the foundation that he established."
The auditor's job, which pays $54,000 a year, includes tracking and auditing all offices and departments that collect or handle money and to review all purchase requests and expenditures as well as advising the Cape Girardeau County Commission on financial matters.
