It's time to sign up as an official Random Acts of Kindness Week participant. In return, participants can get free promotional items to help in committing kindnesses.
Individuals, schools, clubs, churches and other organizations are encouraged to get involved by planning special activities during the week of May 10 through 16.
This is the third year the Southeast Missourian newspaper has sponsored Random Acts of Kindness, and this year's list of participants is growing.
To make joining the kindness campaign as easy as possible, the newspaper is giving away stickers, bookmarks, signs and a sheet listing 100 kind suggestions. All are free.
The newspaper has printed 25,000 stickers and 13,000 bookmarks for this year's observance.
"We want to give them all away," said Joni Adams, coordinator of Random Acts of Kindness.
Teachers and principals have requested enough stickers and bookmarks for everyone in the class or even the school. Plant managers have requested stickers for every employee.
In addition, the newspaper will write dozens of news stories about kind people and kind acts during the week.
To nominate a person or group to be featured in a kindness story, simply call the Southeast Missourian at 335-6611 and ask for Joni Adams or Peggy Scott. Full pages in the newspaper will be devoted to kind people who perform kind acts throughout the year.
