Isle Casino Cape Girardeau is helping veterans hold on to their military history.
As the local chapter of the Missouri Veterans History Project (MVHP), a not-for-profit group organized to interview and record the stories of our veterans, the casino has interviewed and recorded the stories of more than 20 veterans. To continue the effort and to honor the stories of local veterans, materials about MVHP and appointment sign-ups will be available in the casino lobby on Veterans Day. MVHP works closely with the national Veterans History Project, which is an effort of the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress.
In addition, veterans and active military will be treated to a free cap by the casino.
A release said Veterans Day activities are just one of the many ways Missouri casinos honor and support veterans throughout the state. Last year, Missouri casinos sent nearly $22 million in tax revenue to the state's Veterans Commission Trust Fund, which funds health care at its seven veterans homes and assists veterans and their dependents through its programs. Missouri casinos have donated more than $325 million to the veterans fund since gaming began in Missouri. Missouri casinos also support veterans in their local communities by funding and volunteering at local organizations.
