The IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in Cape Girardeau will be open Saturday to provide free tax help.
IRS employees will be available to prepare basic tax returns for taxpayers with income of $49,000 and below, especially those qualifying for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC is a credit for people who work, but do not earn high incomes, and can be as much as $5,600.
IRS spokesman Michael Devine said Missourians claimed more than $950 billion in this credit last year but still many don't know about it.
People who want assistance filing tax returns can bring their W-2s and 10-99s to the Cape Girardeau Taxpayer Assistance Center at 137 S. Broadview St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
