The Internal Revenue Service is offering free tax help Saturday at its Cape Girardeau offices, 137 S. Broadview St. Anyone with an income of $42,000 or less can have their federal tax returns prepared at no cost, U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson announced. The offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. People wanting help need to bring proof of identification, Social Security card for themselves and their dependents, birth dates for the filer, their spouse and dependents, any tax package received in the mail, wage and earnings statements, interest and dividend statements from banks, a copy of last year's federal and state returns if available, bank routing numbers for direct deposit and the total amount paid for day care and the day care provider's tax number.
