The Internal Revenue Service has joined the list of agencies offering paperless services.
Now taxpayers can phone-in information for the income tax returns. An estimated 23 million taxpayers who currently use the 1040EZ form are eligible for the Touch-Tone TeleFile system.
To be eligible for TeleFile, you must receive a special tax booklet containing a PIN and must be single with no dependents, have a taxable income of less than $50,000, have filed a tax return in the past and reside at the same address as listed on last year's return.
The telephone filing service will compute additional taxes, if they are due or announce refunds, which can be received within three weeks. The entire transaction will take about 10 minutes.
TeleFile access will be available 24 hours daily and is offered in both English and Spanish. IRS assistance is available at 1-800-829-1040. TDD access can be reached at 1-800-829-4059. IRS forms are also available via the Internet at fedworld.gov.
