BUNCETON, Mo. -- The pilot who died when his helicopter crashed in central Missouri has been identified as Gregory Dejonge, 49, of New Sharon, Iowa, the Cooper County Sheriff's department said.

Dejonge's helicopter went down Wednesday night shortly after taking off from Boonville. The wreckage was found Thursday in a cornfield between Bunceton and Prairie Home, south of Boonville.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Dejonge's wife notified authorities when she did not hear from her husband, who left for Osage Beach about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, the sheriff's office said.
