Investigation into contaminate spill continues in Cape Girardeau

An investigation continues into the cause of a contaminate spill late Wednesday in a ditch in the area of South West End Boulevard and Linden Street. Cape Girardeau Fire Department battalion chief Brad Dillow said crews responded to a strange odor in the area at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters determined the unknown chemical was coming from a small creek. Dillow said the product was floating on top of the water and was contained about 300 yards downstream using absorbent booms. The road was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked in the area, and the firefighters left the scene around 1 a.m. Thursday. No injuries or evacuations were reported.
