The southbound lane of Interstate 55 will be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. Thursday for construction on the new Highway 74 interchange.
Traffic will be detoured to Business Loop 55. The northbound lane was closed for 15-minute periods.
Between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, the left traveling lanes on both the north- and southbound lanes of I-55 will be closed. The right lanes will be delayed for 15-minute time periods throughout the day.
Sgt. Carl Kinnison of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said the short closures are necessary while large, steel beams are moved over the interstate.
Monday is the last known day for I-55 delays. The left lane of the northbound side will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The right lane will be delayed for 15-minute time periods.
