The Southeast Missourian and Southeast Missouri State University will co-sponsor a series of community Internet training classes.
Since the classes began in 1997, more than 1,000 people from throughout the region have received Internet training through this program. Participants have ranged in age from 8 to 94.
A number of instructors from the SEMissourian.com web staff are available at each class for increased hands-on assistance.
Each class is two hours in length, but participants can repeat sessions.
Signups for all classes begin Monday, and interested persons should call the Southeast Missourian at 335-6611, Ext. 151, and ask for Sharon Rogers.
Registration will be limited to 38 individuals per session. Students will each work at a computer with high-speed Internet access in Dempster Hall on the university campus.
The fall class lineup includes:
-- Beginners, Thursday, Sept. 2, 7-9 p.m.

The beginning classes are designed for those who want to learn more about the Internet and World Wide Web. Practical surfing tips will be offered along with a number of informational handouts.
The intermediate class covers such topics as e-mail, chat, screensavers, downloading and installing programs in more detail. Again, a number of information handouts are distributed to participants.
The classes typically fill up quickly, so individuals are encouraged to call as soon as possible and reserve a spot. Cost is $20 for either the beginning or intermediate class, and payment is required prior to registration. Payment can be made in the form of cash, check or credit card.
An admission ticket and parking pass will be issued upon payment. Tickets are transferable but nonrefundable.
The classes typically draw from a large region. Attendees have traveled from a 70-mile radius from Cape Girardeau, including a number of Southern Illinois towns.
Special discounts are available for newspaper subscribers.
