Switching Internet servers is not a simple matter.
Ask Shirlene Krewson, LDD Net manager.
"The end result will be better service," said Krewson, "but making the switch can create some problems."
LDD Net, 24 S. Minnesota, an Internet provider for thousands of customers, has been providing the service with the use of another company's server.
"We decided to get our own server," said Krewson.
LDD placed the announcement on its own web site, and sent out letters concerning the switch, with directions on making the switch.
That's where the complications started, said Krewson.
Apparently, all of the users did not receive the mail, and the first letter contained a typo that slowed the process of the switchover. And there were a few other glitches in the switchover.
The LDD switchboard started lighting up.
"We have several lines here and they were all busy, from people wanting information," said Krewson. "As soon as we discovered the problems, we started making adjustment."
Things are looking better for the company now.
"We had anticipated some problems, but nothing like this," said Krewson.
As of late Thursday, most problems had been worked out and probably 75 percent of the systems were up and running.
Users on the net have been pleased with the performance of the new server.
LDD Internet users having problems should call the LDD Net office, 651-3373, Krewson said.
