An example of intermodal transportation at work is now under way at the Southeast Missourian.
A web press formerly used by the paper is being dismantled for shipment to a newspaper in Romania. After the press is dismantled, it will be placed in three container vans.
The vans will be trucked to St. Louis, where they will be lifted off the semi-trailer frames and placed aboard railroad double stack cars for transport to the port of Houston.
At Houston, the three containers will be put aboard an Israeli container ship for the ocean voyage over the Atlantic Ocean, through the Mediterranean Sea, past the Bosporus at Istanbul, Turkey, and into the Black Sea.
The ship will dock at the Romanian seaport of Constanta, where the three containers will be placed back aboard trailer frames and transported by rail or truck to their final destination - Sflntu Gheorghe, Romania, in the Transylvanian mountains.
