Gary Johnson, associate dean of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business and professor of accounting at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named interim dean, the university announced Thursday.
Johnson, who has been associate dean of the Harrison College since 2006, assumed his new role June 1. He will serve as interim dean through Dec. 31, according to a Southeast news release.
Johnson replaces Gerald McDougall, who was named interim provost and chief academic officer of the university, effective June 1. McDougall replaced William Eddleman, who recently announced he was stepping down from the provost position to return to the faculty.
A national search is underway to find a permanent replacement for the provost, the university said. McDougall is not a candidate for the permanent position.
Johnson has served as chairman of the board of the Missouri Society of CPAs, president of the Southeast Chapter of the Missouri Society of CPAs, president of the Missouri Association of Accounting Educators and president of the North American Accounting Society. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Missouri Society of CPAs and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas with a major in accounting and minors in economics and computer information systems. He also holds an MBA from Missouri State University.
