Playground injuries and trauma management will highlight "Current Social and Medical Issues in Education," a conference sponsored annually by Southeast Missouri Hospital for teachers, school nurses and other interested school personnel.
Scheduled Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital, the event should prove beneficial to teachers, school nurses, principals and counselors, said Marcia Eggers, an instructor in the Nursing Education Department at the hospital and chairman of the seventh annual event.
"School is a major part of a child's life, and the social and medical issues of school-age children have a definite impact on both youngsters and those involved with our children on a day-to-day basis," Eggers.
Each of the programs will be presented by a local expert.
The playground injuries-trauma management segment of the conference will be divided into five specific areas: dental trauma, eye trauma, basic first aid, neuro trauma and introduction of the "Tommy Trauma" program.
The seminar will begin with a discussion of "Attention Deficit" by Pediatrician James A. Dinkins. Also on the morning program are presentations on legal aspects, immunization and childhood rashes.
To register, mail the $15 registration fee to the Nursing Education Department at Southeast Missouri Hospital, 1701 Lacey Street, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701. Continuing Education Units will be awarded through the Missouri Nurses Association to all nurses attending the seminar.
