An initial autopsy has provided inconclusive results in the death of a 1-year-old Cape Girardeau baby who died Friday, police say.

Cameron Lee Swader's heart apparently stopped while he was at home and he was taken by ambulance to Southeast Missouri Hospital, said County Coroner Mike Hurst. Family members and paramedics attempted to perform CPR, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Amber Swader and Anthony Odoms, both of Cape Girardeau, are the child's parents.

Cameron's body had bruising, but officials have not determined a cause for the injuries and the death is being called "unclassified," Hurst said.

Police are investigating the death, but no charges have been filed, said Sgt. Rick Schmidt.

A more detailed autopsy will be conducted with blood and tissue samples, but results are not expected for another several weeks, Schmidt said.

"It doesn't sound good, but we are in a holding pattern until we get back some information from this other autopsy," Schmidt said.

Family members are dealing with the tragedy with as much uncertainty. The baby was reportedly in good health on Thursday during a family dinner, said great-grandfather Larry Swader.

"It's just a tragedy," he said. "He was a healthy little baby. I hope they can figure out what caused it."
