The latest stage of the Independence Street construction project is complete, and construction will now move on to a new area, according to a news release from the city of Cape Girardeau.

Contractors were working from Hanover Street to West End Boulevard, requiring the intersection at Independence Street and West End Boulevard to be shut down. That intersection is now open to traffic.

The next phase of the project will close the block between Louisiana Avenue and West End Boulevard, which will remain closed for about 30 days, weather permitting.

Businesses along the section of road will remain open. To comment, call the city's Engineering Division at 334-9020.
