PERRYVILLE -- The Republican side of the ballot will be a little crowded in Perry County's August primary election.
Filing opened Tuesday for the county primary, and so far, all the candidates, incumbents included, are Republicans.
Incumbent County Clerk Randy Taylor was the first to file. Taylor lives at 310 S. Waters St. in Perryville.
Also up for grabs this year are the presiding commissioner post now held by Karl Klaus who is retiring from office, the circuit clerk/ex officio recorder of deeds, treasurer, prosecuting attorney and collector of revenue.
Two candidates have filed for the presiding commissioner's seat. Mike Ernst, 1335 S. Kingshighway in Perryville, will challenge Tomm Sutterer, 22 Sutterer Place, also in Perryville.
Taylor said he expects the presiding commissioner race to stir up the most interest. Klaus is retiring after 12 years in office.
The only other race so far is for the circuit clerk/recorder seat. Incumbent Donna C. Guemmer, 106 Seven Pines Lane, Perryville, faces newcomer Becky A. Paulus, 1130 Zita, Perryville.
Incumbent Veronica "Ronnie" Hershey, 2607 County Road 616, Perryville, has filed for re-election as treasurer, as have Collector Rodney J. Richardet, 4171 County Road 604, Perryville; Prosecutor Thomas L. Hoeh, 88 Friendly Valley Lane, Perryville; and Associate Circuit Judge Michael J. Bullerdieck, 2 Lakeside Drive, Perryville.
