Incumbent lawmakers nearly unscathed in Mo. primary

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Tuesday's primary proved a good time to be an incumbent, with wins for all but one of the 134 current lawmakers seeking re-election.

Freshman House member Tony George, of Florissant, lost by just 88 votes of 3,120 cast in a Democratic primary for the 74th House district. There is no Republican in that race, so winner Steve Webb, of Florissant, likely faces no opposition in November.

Another 25 House Republicans and 47 Democrats also essentially clinched spots in the Legislature by winning their primaries because no opposition party filed. Two Republicans and three Democrats will face Libertarian candidates.

In the Senate, one Republican and two Democrats likely won't be opposed in November. And two Democrats will face Libertarians.
