Pleaded guilty

* Name: Shannon R. Hunsperger

* Age: 30

* Residence: Cape Girardeau

* Charge: one count of conspiracy to possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

* Sentencing: Maximum 20 years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine, or both. Sentencing has been set for July 17.

* Summary: Hunsperger admitted that on Jan. 23, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration received information from a pharmacy in Cape Girardeau about a suspicious individual purchasing a box of pseudoephedrine. The agents stopped the vehicle Hunsperger was driving, and both he and his passenger admitted to buying the pills for a third party who planned to make methamphetamine. Area pharmacy records indicated both Hunsperger and his passenger had made numerous suspicious purchases of the drug over the previous weeks.

He slid a vinyl bag and a note to the teller saying "fill the bag up with money." The teller placed $3,275 in cash in the bag, and Mathis left the bank on a bicycle. The teller notified police, who broadcast an alert for the bank robber. A city worker saw a man fitting the description near the bank riding away on a bicycle. The city worker called officers, who responded and made contact with the man, later identified as Mathis. Police also recovered a large kitchen knife on Mathis.
