In federal court: Cape Girardeau man sentenced to 10 years on drug trafficking charges

The following information was released Friday by the federal prosecutor's office for defendants appearing before U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr.

Name: Corey L. Shannon

Age: 30

Residence: Cape Girardeau

Charge: One count of distribution of crack cocaine

Sentence: 120 months in federal prison

Summary: Shannon admitted that on Aug. 27, 2009, in Cape Girardeau County, he gave 4.8 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration in exchange for $600. Shannon's sentence was enhanced because he possessed a firearm during the transaction and also attempted to obstruct justice during the investigation of the offense. Following his release from prison, Shannon will be required to serve three years of supervised release.
