The following information was released by the U.S. attorney's office for defendants appearing in federal court before U.S. District Judge Stephen Limbaugh Jr.
PLEADED GUILTY
Name: George R. Chesnut
Age: 47
Residence: Alton, Ill.
Charge: Two felony counts of armed bank robbery
Sentencing: Set for May 14. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a $250,00 fine on each count.
Summary: Twice during October 2008, Chesnut robbed the Bank of Missouri on Kingshighway, taking nearly $22,000. On Oct. 6 he handed the teller a note and demanded money. He lifted his shirt to expose the handle of a toy gun that looked like a handgun to the teller. Chesnut took $17,210 from the teller. On Oct. 30 he went to the bank again and took $4,640 after demanding money and flashing the handle of a toy gun.
