The board of directors of the proposed Downtown Cape Girardeau Community Improvement District will gather for its first meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, 235 Broadway.

The meeting is open to the public.

The board plans to discuss a number of issues, including the appointment of officers, adoption of bylaws and calling the election for the property and sales tax that would be imposed within the district's boundaries.

Board members are Lindy Lysell, Dave Hutson, Sheila Saur, Kent Zickfield, James Stapleton, Daniel Statler and Jon K. Rust, publisher of the Southeast Missourian and co-president of Rust Communications.
