Illmo Housing Authority designated high performer by HUD
SCOTT CITY -- The Illmo Housing Authority of Scott City has been designated a high performer by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The rating goes to public housing authorities that exceed 90 percent of their annual public housing management assessment program evaluation.
By receiving a 95 percent on its evaluation, the housing authority joins select company. The high-performer rating is awarded to fewer than 40 percent of the 348 housing authorities that operate housing for low-income people in HUD's Great Plains area of Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.
The evaluation is required by the National Affordable Housing Act. It measures the quality of a housing authority's operations in 12 functional areas such as administration, maintenance, vacancy rate, rent collections, modernization work, energy savings, finances and commitment to resident initiatives.
Weighted grades in each of the 12 areas are totaled to give housing authorities a score ranging from 1 to 100 percent. As a reward for their management excellence, among other criteria, HUD exempts high performers from certain administrative reporting requirements.
"Designation as a high performing housing authority is an acknowledgement of the authority's diligence in management and just plain-hard work," said Joe O'Hern, HUD's regional administrator for the Great Plains area.
The high performing housing authorities in Missouri were recognized this week at a meeting of the Missouri National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials in St. Louis.
