EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. -- A man already serving in the Illinois House and was recently re-elected to a city council seat says he'll drop the city post.

Earlier this month Eddie Jackson won re-election to a city council seat in East St. Louis. But since January, he's been a 114th District state representative.

Jackson told the Belleville News-Democrat that he'll drop the city council post after he's sworn in next month.

He says he never planned to hold both seats, but wanted to complete the electoral process which ends with swearing in.

Jackson has been on the East St. Louis City Council since 1979.

He says he doesn't know who will replace him on the city council.
