SIKESTON, Mo. -- As contractors work to set beams for the new Route H overpass south of Blodgett, Mo., Interstate 55 will be closed from exit 80 at Benton, Mo., to exit 69 at Miner, Mo., for one 24-hour period. Traffic will be detoured to U.S. 61 from 9 p.m. July 16 to 9 p.m. July 17. According to regional field engineer Andy Meyer, closing that section of I-55 is the best way to complete that stage of construction, allowing contractors to work safely and avoid short-term closures. As traffic is detoured, there will be a potential for delays. Local residents should consider alternate routes. Additionally, the Fruitland rest area at southbound mile marker 110 will be closed July 16 as beams are stored and transported to the construction site. Completion of the Route H overpass is anticipated in mid-August. Signs and warning devices will be in place. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
