Interstate 55 southbound will be reduced to one lane Tuesday, weather permitting, from exit 111 at Oak Ridge to exit 89 at Scott City. The reduction will happen as MoDOT contractors install guardcable in the median along southbound lanes to prevent traffic from crossing.
Guardcable installation will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and should be wrapped up by mid-July, MoDOT reports. The entire project includes installation of the cable from Oak Ridge to Sikeston.
The cables have stopped more than 95 percent of vehicles that enter the median before they cross into opposing lanes of traffic, a MoDOT news release said. MoDOT says the project cost is $4,715,155 — a contract won by Collins & Hermann, Inc., of St. Louis.
For more information on the project call MoDOT at 1-888-ASK-MODOT.
