JACKSON -- A hunter education class will be conducted at Jackson and Benton this week.
Steve Wilson, Missouri Department of conservation Hunters Skills Specialist, will conduct a three-day course today, Wednesday and Thursday at the Jackson Elks Lodge, 542 Highway D.
The course will be conducted from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday, and from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday.
Sgt. John Miller of the Missouri National Guard will present a one-day course, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Benton American Legion Building Saturday. Participants may pre-register for the Benton class by calling Marcus Schafer, (314)-545-3223.
The day-long course is being sponsored by the National Guard and the American Legion.
All hunters born on or after January 1, 1967, are required to complete this training before they can purchase any type of firearms hunting permit.
The course covers the role of the hunter and hunting in wildlife management and conservation, and responsibilities for the outdoorsman. A test will be given at the conclusion of the course.
