A Hunger Banquet will be held tonight at Southeast Missouri State University to commemorate World Hunger Day.
The banquet will be held at 6 p.m. at the University Center South Cafeteria.
"Hunger Hurts the Whole World Round" is the theme of this year's banquet, which is being held to spotlight food and farming issues. The day is observed in 150 countries.
Persons attending the free event will be divided into three groups depicting the global food economy. Fifteen percent will be placed in the high bracket, 25 percent in the middle group and the remaining 60 percent in the lowest group.
The meals served will represent the quality and amount of food people survive on around the world.
A video also will be shown, and Bill Meyer of the university's department of agriculture will speak on "World Food and Society.
Donations will be accepted and will go to FISH, the local food pantry, and to Bread for the World.
The event is sponsored by the Association of Campus Ministries, Offices of Student Development, Student Dietetic Association, the Department of Human Environmental Studies and the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance.
