On Saturday, the Humane Society will conduct its third annual candlelight vigil to remember homeless animals.
The event marks Homeless Animals Day and will be conducted at Cape County Park North, Shelter 4, at 8 p.m. The vigil was organized to memorialize the unwanted dogs and cats from the local community that were euthanized in the last year due to a lack of homes.
Organizers hope to encourage responsible pet ownership and to help solve the tragedy of dog and cat overpopulation.
During the vigil, shelter staff, concerned individuals and members of the local media will read items stressing the consequences of pet overpopulation. The public is invited to attend.
