The SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, Inc. (SADI) will hold a seminar on fair housing today at the Show Me Center.
The seminar, which lasts from 9 a.m. to noon, will discuss landlords' and tenants' rights and responsibilities under federal fair housing laws, said Chuck Henze II, an independent living specialist for SADI.
Speakers include several representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) office in St. Louis: Sonja McClendon, who will give an overview of the fair housing program and the Americans with Disabilities Act vs. the Fair Housing Amendments Act; Eddie L. Wartts discussing fair housing accessibility guidelines; Dennis R. Martin discussing affordable and adaptable housing for the disabled; and Joyce M. Adams, who will focus on Section 811 housing programs.
"There will also be a tenant and a landlord activist from Cape Girardeau who will speak," Henze said. "They'll be giving their views on what they feel works and doesn't work in the HUD program."
Also, Bronwen Zwirner, executive director of the Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing Opportunity Council, will discuss "Fair Housing: Rights and Responsibilities Under the Law."
The seminar will include a question and answer period. For more information, call 651-6464.
