Looking for something to do late Tuesday nights. Bored by the same old syndicated episodes of "Seinfeld"?

Look no more. Tuesday's at 11:30 p.m. is now the time to catch interviews and performances by local and regional bands on the new show "Soundscan," produced by locals Candace Banks and James LeBine and featuring artists from Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area, including Memphis and St. Louis.

Banks and LeBine say they want to create a show to serve a local market that has no where to go to see local artists on TV. Local musicians are stoked about the prospects of reaching out to bigger audiences than they can in a one-night weekend gig downtown.

"I just knew there was a whole culture of these local bands and their fans," said Banks during a break in a 12-hour weekend marathon session of taping performances for the show.

The show is slated for six weeks on UPN the Beat and started its run on March 28. In that six weeks musicians from hip-hop to rap to metal to alternative will be featured, with local names like Fists of Phoenix, Emaciation, Mike Renick Band and a little-known local rapper called Poten-C appearing.

Producers and musical acts alike promise a polished production.

"From what I've seen of the footage they've put together, it looks just as good as anything I've seen anywhere, it looks just as good as MTV footage," said Emaciation's Kirby Ray. "It's hip and cool, and I think that's going to appeal to a huge amount of people."
