An interim state House of Representatives committee will hit the road at the end of September to receive public input on ways to improve the state's education system. The committee will hold a series of hearings from Sept. 23 through 25, including one in Cape Girardeau.
State Rep. Steve Cookson, R-Poplar Bluff, Mo., said in a news release that witnesses will be asked to sign in with an indicated topic of interest they wish to address. Each topic will then be given 15 minutes of discussion that will be divided evenly among individuals who have signed up to testify.
The committee plans to discuss a variety of topics, according to the news release, including school safety, Common Core standards and school quality and achievement standards.
The tour begins near St. Louis but will come to Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m. Sept 24 at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. Another hearing will be at 7 p.m. at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.
