CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Cape Girardeau is one of six Missouri locations being considered as possible sites for a Hampton Inn.

Ginger Schuette, central regional director of development with Hampton Inns of Memphis, Tenn., said research had been conducted in about 450 markets for new prototype lodging for use in communities supporting hotels of less than 100 rooms.

She said that about 90 percent of the 450 markets would be approached concerning the development of a Hampton Inn.

"We recently announced a new design for the smaller inns," said Schuette. "We have a total of 247 hotels in 39 states, which average about 120 units each. With the new design, we can provide hotel operations of less than 100 rooms. Some communities may need the smaller hotels."

Other locations in Missouri being considered are Branson, Joplin, Poplar Bluff, Jefferson City and Sedalia.
