A St. Francis Medical Center administrator is the only person who filed for the seat being vacated by Jackson Alderman Larry Hall. Filing for the April election closed Tuesday.

Dale Rauh, director of rehabilitation at the medical center, is running for the Ward 4 seat.

No competition exists for the other seats either. Ward 1 Alderman Philip Penzel, Ward 2 Alderman Kerry Hoffman and Ward 3 Alderwoman Valeria Tuschhoff filed for re-election and will not be opposed in the election. Mayor Paul Sander also is unopposed in the election.

Penzel is running for his second term, Hoffman for his fourth term, and Tuschhoff for her sixth term.

Sander also is anticipating his sixth term as mayor.

Rauh is chairman of a committee conducting a feasibility study for a community center in Jackson. He is the vice president of the Jackson School Foundation Board of Directors.

He was unavailable for comment.

'A fine addition'

Sander said Hall has been a very good councilman. "He thinks things through very well. Dale Rauh will be equally as capable, a fine addition to city council," Sander said.

Hall was appointed to the seat 4 1/2 years ago when former Alderman Jack Piepenbrok resigned. Hall is vice president of commercial lending for US Bank in Jackson. He said the demands of being an alderman made him decide not to run for a third time. "It takes a lot of time and dedication," he said. "I didn't quite have the time."

Hall previously served on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission. "I still will be involved in some fashion with the city," he said.

Rauh is a neighbor of his. "He'll do a fine job," Hall said.
