The band is comprised of 50 high school students chosen by audition from among several hundred young people representing 40 Missouri school districts. The ensemble is conducted by Robert Gifford, a music professor and coordinator of applied music at Southeast Missouri State University, and Barry Bernhardt, director of activity bands at the university.
