JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Central Missouri Honor Flight is increasing its trips to Washington, D.C., as Missouri continues to lose its World War II veterans.
The Honor Flight program is scheduling as many flights as possible to the World War II Memorial. The trip costs $320.
Since Gus Heisler returned from his trip in May, he's been handing out applications to fellow World War II veterans in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4756 in Linn.
But that organization loses about one member each month.
Since January, the central Missouri hub of the national organization has raised more than $100,000 and has sent more than 100 veterans to the capital on three flights in five months.
