A tradition that began during the Theodore Roosevelt administration will continue this week in downtown Jackson.

The 91st Annual Homecomers will kick off Tuesday night, when mayor Paul Sander and the Jackson Municipal Band welcome visitors and locals to the gala.

The miss Homecomers Pageant will be held at 8 p.m., with the crowning at 9:15 p.m. American Pie Band will be held at 8:30 and 9:45 p.m.

The event, which dates back to 1908, is sponsored by the Jackson Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce.

Carnival rides, good stands, games and exhibit will be open nightly, through Sunday. There will also be a nightly drawing for prizes at 10:30. among the prizes will be three grand attendance prizes: a Zenith 32-inch color TV from the American Legion (purchased at Southard's), a $250 gift certificate for groceries from Schaper's IGA or Jackson save-A-Lot and 250 gallons go gasoline from Stogie's Texaco.

A talent show will be held Wednesday through Friday, while Robyn Hosp will entertain Saturday.

The festivities will also include a 5K race and one-mile youth race, at 7:30 p.m., tuesday. Sponsored by Tractors, Main street Fitness, Super Video, Schaper's IGA and The Bank of Missouri, the races will begin at the Medicap parking Lot at Washington and Missouri streets.

An awards ceremony will be held at 9 p.m., with a $100 savings bond from the Bank of Missouri going to the overall male and female winners. T-shirts will go to the first 100 entries.
