Home tour for the holidays

The Daniel Home, one of the stops on the Christmas Home Tour held Dec. 6, invitingly beckons tourgoers to proceed upstairs where each bedroom proclaims the beauty of the season with its own tree.Southeast Missourian

An annual Christmas home tour, presented by Lutheran Family and Children's Services and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

This event is a fund raiser for both organizations. A luncheon will not be held this year; instead a coupon booklet of tickets that may be used during the holidays is provided.

A tour map of the homes of James and Marge Bauerle, John and Kim Daniel, Susan Dodd, Mike and Nancy Mathes and Dan and Alice Niswonger will be included. Tickets may be purchased at LFCS office, 2911 Breckenridge; The Arts Council, 32 N. Main; Schnuck's; Wanda's Coiffures; Bi-State Southern Convenience Stores, all in Cape Girardeau, or at High Street Station in Jackson.

Highlights of the tour:

225 Wellington: Decorated for the holidays, the home of Kim and John Daniel includes Christmas trees on the main level as well as personal trees for each child's bedroom on the upper level. Even twins, Anna and Audrey, 10 months old, share a tree.

2507 Abbey Road: The home of Susan Dodd, filled with heirlooms and collectibles from Dodd's international travels, are complimented by beautiful window treatments.

3120 Independence, No. 30: Meticulous landscaping overflows into the interior of James and Marge Bauerle's home. Brilliant watercolor paintings of nature and animal prints exude a comfortable, earthy feeling.

603 Hilltop Ridge: Constructed of massive oak logs from Montana, the home of Mike and Nancy Mathes is further inspired by the couple's love of the outdoors with personal hunting trophies displayed.

2115 Derbyshire: Unique to the home of Dan and Alice Niswonger is the complete handicapped accessibility in this ranch-style home. An elevator to the finished basement provides ease for spending time in the family room decorated with collectibles.
