Several are achurches have planned celebrations for Holy Week.
Palm Sunday
-- First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau will hold a special Palm Sunday service at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m., with children carrying palms into the church.
-- Abundant Life Church will present "The Living Lord's Supper" at 10:30 a.m. The drama includes excerpts from the Last Supper with Jesus and the disciples. Gary Don Richardson of Poplar Bluff will be the special speaker at a 6 p.m. service.
-- Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cairo, Ill., will observe the Sunday of the Passion at noon.
-- Trinity Lutheran Church will have a children's processional during the 8 a.m. service and an adult confirmation at 10:30 a.m.
Maundy Thursday
-- St. Mark Lutheran Church ELCA will hold a communion service on Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m.
--First Presbyterian Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Communion will be served.
-- Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cairo, Ill., will observe a Maundy Thursday Mass at 5:15 p.m. at the church. It includes the Holy Eucharist or Last Supper.
-- Trinity Lutheran Church will have Maundy Thursday services at 4 and 7 p.m.
-- First Christian Church is sponsoring a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m.
Good Friday
-- A community Good Friday service is planned at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 12:10 p.m. April 10. The Rev. Grant Gillard will preach. The service is sponsored by the Jackson Ministerial Alliance.
-- A community wide Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau. The sermon is titled, "The seven last words of Christ." The service is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance.
-- Anna Height Baptist Church will mark Tenebrae, a service of darkness, Good Friday at 7 p.m. It includes a three-act drama portraying the Passover meal, Jesus' betrayal and crucifixion.
--St. Mark Lutheran Church ELCA will hold a service of darkness Friday at 7 p.m.
-- Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cairo will hold a liturgy of Good Friday service at noon.
-- Trinity Lutheran Church will have a Tre-Ore service at 11:30 a.m. on the seven last words of Christ. An evening service with communion will be held at 7 p.m. A Holy Saturday service is planned at 6 p.m.
Easter Sunday
-- First Christian Church will hold a an Easter brunch following the 8:15 worship service at the church. There also will be a children's Easter egg hunt and a 10:30 a.m. worship service.
-- Grace United Methodist Church will have a 6:30 a.m. service with Greg Miller, 16, preaching. The Rev. Larry E. Gallamore will preach during the 8 and 10 a.m. services.
-- First Presbyterian Church in Jackson will hold a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. in the Community Room at Bent Creek Golf Club. A 10 a.m worship service is planned at the church.
-- Westminster Presbyterian Church will hold a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. at the cross on church grounds, 1820 Perryville Road.
-- Bald Knob Cross of Peace will host its 62nd annual sunrise service from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the cross near Alto Pass, Ill. The Rev. Clifford Heil will preach. A pre-service breakfast will be available at 2 a.m. For information call (618) 893-2344 or 893-2170.
-- Faith Evangelical Free Church will hold its service at 8 a.m. at the congregation's building site near Interstate 55 and Highway 61. It is the first service to be held in the building, which has not been completed. A 10 a.m. worship service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, where the congregation has been meeting.
-- Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna, Ill., will present a resurrection celebration during the 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services.
-- St. Mark Lutheran Church ELCA will hold a "sonrise" service at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast served immediately following the service. A 10 a.m. service also is planned.
-- Fairview General Baptist Church in Advance will hold a sunrise service at 5:30 a.m., with breakfast following the service.
-- Lynwood Baptist Church will hold Easter service at the A.C. Brase Arena Building at 10:30 a.m. At 7 p.m., the church will present, "The Promise," an Easter pageant. Child care will be provided at the church, 1712 Randol, for both services.
-- David Butler, pastor of Abundant Life Church, will present a dramatized sermon called, "The Glory of Easter" at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
-- Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cairo will hold a resurrection service and Mass at noon.
