CHARLESTON -- The historic Moore Home in Charleston will be open for holiday tours Sunday. Two other homes are also featured on the Mississippi County Historical Society's tour.
The tour will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased from the historical society. Musical entertainment is planned and refreshments will be served.
The Moore Home, 403 N. Main, was built around 1899 by James Handy Moore, who was born in Charleston in 1865. Moore was president of a local bank, telephone company, power company and ice company. The home was occupied by family members until 1977 when it was deeded to the Mississippi County Historical Society.
The theme of the Moore Home is Winter Wonderland. Volunteers are putting the finishing touches on decorations this week, including fresh magnolias and greenery.
Among holiday decorations are an antique handmade village, a feather tree and an antique Santa costume.
Also on the tour is the home of Dorothy and Lynn Bruce, 102 N. Virginia. Their new home includes antiques and collectibles. The holiday decorating theme is Colonial Williamsburg.
The third home on the tour belongs to John McMinn at 302 N. Main. This older Charleston home is decorated with the theme Children's Delight and features a Mickey Mouse collection, snowmen and wooden trains.
