All Cape Girardeau city offices will be closed Tuesday in observance of Independence Day. City offices will resume normal business hours Wednesday. The scheduled city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at city hall. Tuesday's trash and recycling pick-ups will be collected on Wednesday. There will be no special Wednesday pickups. Independence Day activities kick off at 6:30 p.m. and end with a fireworks display over the Mississippi River at around 9:30 p.m. The River City Players will present a play, "Young Louis Lorimier," at 7 p.m. Local performers will present another program, a historical reenactment of the city's incorporation at 8 p.m. Mayor Jay Knudtson will speak at 9 p.m.
