It's Cape Girardeau history through the camera lenses of people who lived here 100 years ago and those who are still here.

It's "Cape Girardeau Faces and Places," a pictorial history of the city from the 1800s through the 1950s.

And it's at the Southeast Missourian today.

The hardcover book will be available for pickup -- for those who paid in advance -- or purchase at the Southeast Missourian building, 301 Broadway, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Carol Robert, who coordinated the project for the Southeast Missourian, said the books came back from the printer looking spectacular.

"It exceeded even my expectations, which were very high," she said. "It's unbelievable."

There are 340 photos in the book, all submitted by the public with photo captions carefully collected by Robert. There are more than 500 other pictures on an accompanying CD, which features commentary and a musical background.

Books also will be available later this week at the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Heuer Sons Implement Co. and several downtown stores.
