PADUCAH, Ky. -- The third annual Western Kentucky Highland Festival will be held Sept. 8-10 at Carson Park.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 with a Ceilidh (Scottish party) at the Marriott Hotel. Entertainers will be Ian Bruce, Red McWilliams and dulcimer player Kyle Meadows.
The festival celebrating Celtic culture will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 9 and will include a battle ax throw and a tug of war pitting the Paducah firefighters against the policemen. The Parade of Tartans will be held at noon.
Ian Bruce, Red McWilliams and Harpist Sheila Gail Hart will perform throughout the day along with the Alhambra, Wolf Creek Pipes & Drums and Emerald Society pipebands.
Other attractions include the Scottish Country Dancers, children's events, sheep herding, Gaelic seminars, fencing demonstrations, clan tents, storytelling, a genealogy tent and Scottish food.
The festival will conclude Sept. 10 with a Kirking of the Tartans at First Presbyterian Church beginning at the 10:45 a.m. worship service.
