DORENA, Mo. -- The Dorena-Hickman Ferry halted operations about 8:30 a.m. Monday, when floodwaters reached the top of the Kentucky landing at Hickman, Ky., according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The ferry normally is forced to halt operations when the Cairo, Ill., gauge reaches about 44 feet. The Ohio River at Cairo was at 44.5 feet at 8 a.m. Sunday, forecast to reach 48.5 feet by Friday. Unless the river forecast is revised downward, the elevated river levels will keep the Dorena-Hickman Ferry closed all week, the state agency said.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects Kentucky Highway 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Highway 77 near Dorena. For more information on the Dorena-Hickman Ferry and a schedule of operating hours, visit dorena-hickmanferryboat.com or call 731-693-0210.
