Cape Girardeau set another daily heat record on Thursday when the mercury again soared into the triple digits.
The high temperature hit 101 degrees at 1:10 p.m. Thursday at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, and heat indexes hovered near 110 degrees for much of the afternoon before cloud cover lowered temperatures later in the day.
The previous record high for the date was 100 degrees, which had been hit several times, most recently in 1986.
The high in Cape Girardeau last reached 100 degrees on July 7, the end of a period which saw nine of 10 days with highs of 100 or higher.
